I am amazed at the diverse areas that Belize has for such smaller square footage of area! You could spend 2 weeks here and still not do everything and see everything. Want to go zip lining? Check. Want to explore Mayan ruins? Check. Want to cave dive the amazing Great Blue Hole? Check and Check! Want to see Jaguars and monkeys? Check. Is bird watching on your list? They have that too! And of course its an island so yes, even swimming and a beach day is something you can do.

Here is this weeks video for you to see and learn about Belize.

I am going to put some of the highlights here for you to see, as well as some of Deborah’s slides, so you can see them on a larger screen.

I have to start with the Great Blue Hole! This is a UNESCO world heritage site, it is listed as one of the top 20 wonders of the underwater world. And WOW! You can see why!

Jacques Cousteau said, “The Great Blue Hole is one of the top ten scuba diving sites in the world”. The Great Blue Hole is extraordinary!

It is a natural creation it is said to have formed after the collapse of an underground cavern and cave system

It is a large circular sinkhole 1000 feet in diameter and over 400 feet deep. Diving the Great Blue Hole is anything but ordinary. The beauty is stunning as huge stalactites can be found at depths starting around 100 feet hanging from the ceiling of caves.
It is only accessible by boat, and you can plan a day diving here!

Make sure you have a quality underwater camera, these pictures will be priceless!
The Great Blue Hole is very close to the reef system, so make sure you check that out while you are diving. Belize has the second-longest Barrier reef system in the world (second to the GREAT Barrier Reef in Australia) so, you know you are going to see amazing marine life.
If you have your PADI certificate then this is a must-see destination for you!

There are so many other things to do in Belize. Here is a map that you can see all the areas to explore. As you can see, there are many Caye’s along the side of the island that has the best beaches!

There are many animal perseveres here. You can do some really fun walking tours, and explore them!
You will surrounded by dense brush so, you don’t need to worry about wearing sunscreen.

One of the most popular preserves is the Jaguar preserve. You will be able to get some amazing pictures. You really get close to the wildlife. In fact, in the video, Deborah said that she was doing a tour at the preserve and a monkey jumped right onto their boat and went on her shoulder!
They are not afraid of you at all. So, you will get some great interaction, and memories to last a lifetime.

I love history! So, if you are a history buff like me, then you can explore all the ruins. They have deep Mayan history in Belize and you can tour the Mayan ruins. The two famous ones are Xunantunich and Caracol Maya Temples.

The landscape and nature are unbelievable here!
Of course, it is an island, so there are going to be some beaches! The best beaches are on the Caye’s (pronounced Keys) which is a series of small islands just off the coast.

They even have a not so secret beach called “Secret Beach”

These beaches are gorgeous, they are nice and clean, white-sand beaches. There are so many beaches available to you, which is great after a day of hiking and exploring, you may want to just put your feet up and relax on the beach while listening to the locals play on their drums and sing.

Here is a short list of the beaches available. There are many more but this is a highlight of a few them.

Belize is also well known for its chocolate. So, make sure you come home with come local chocolate. They also have a few festivals throughout the year. The first one is held the week before Lent begins. It is called “Fiesta de Carnaval” or the Belize Carnival. This features a traditional flour fight, so don’t be surprised if you emerge covered in colorful flour.

The next festival is held in February it is in honor of Sir Henry Edward Ernest Victor Bliss. He was the fourth Baron Bliss of the Kingdom of Portugal. He died offshore of Belize. He had left two million dollars to the country in his will, so they make sure they honor him every February. They celebrate by holding a sailboat race and horse racing competitions.

In July and August Belize holds lobster festivals across the country. They will feature Kabobs, tacos and freshly caught lobster. They will also have music, dancing fresh cocktails and, of course, pina coladas. If you love food, then don’t miss this festival! Lobster season starts in mid-June. So if you want to plan your visit around fresh food, make sure we plan your visit starting in June.

In November there is a festival called ” Garifuna Settlement Day” This festival celebrates the 1832 arrival of the Garinagu people. This festival was started in 1941 and it is in honor of the people who were exiled from the Grenadines by the British army when they sought refuge in Belize. They have live punta music and dress in period costumes. This festival is so much fun! Make sure you tour the town to see all the amazing costumes.

Belize has some post-covid rules that must be met to visit. Once we book your stay in Belize we need to register you on their health app.

Then, you need to take a covid test 72 hours prior to arrival. Remember, that all airlines are requiring the use of a mask while onboard.

Once you arrive in Belize then you go through a quick screening process. Your shoes are sanitized and you pass through a thermal imaging camera.

After they look at your app and make sure you have passed the covid test then you head to the immigration desk and get your all clear.

Next, you get your baggage and go to the customs line. After that, you are free to get your transportation to check-in at your hotel.

The health check app will have your check a box daily saying that you agree that you have no symptoms and you feeling well.

You can continue on with your vacation as normal.

When it is time to depart your amazing vacation, you simply check-in at the airport put on your mask for your flight and you are free to depart as normal.
